Meet our Head Designer - Henry Pope
- RHS Medal & Award winner 2025
- As seen on Gardeners World

About Henry:

''I have always been fascinated by the way in which we interact with our surroundings and how beauty, nature and art can be transformative.

As a Fine Art student my early artistic practice focused on participatory works, in particular through sculpture and installation pieces. Landscapes became an obvious progression in my practice, designing a garden is creating the ultimate participatory artwork.

I believe our outside spaces are a place of discourse between humans and nature. I give as much thought to how wildlife participates in my gardens as people do.

I aim to create spaces that capture the imagination and celebrate the natural world.

Design Consulation
Book in for a Design Consultation with our Head Desginer (Henry Pope)

We offer this service free of charge after a intial Consultation.

Design consultancy offers open and informative discussion around your outdoor space, garden ideas and design advice.
If you are looking to improve your existing space, want a complete fresh start, taking on a large or complex site or just unsure where to begin and want to discuss options, this is the option for you.
All discussions, links and relevant drawings will be typed up and emailed over to you for safe keeping.
After this, we can propose a bespoke tailored design package and proposed costs for the service

Site Survey
Upon acceptance of a Design Quote, we will then book in to carry out a site survey.
To create a bespoke plan for your garden, we need to take accurate measurements of distances
and ground heights of your property. Once we have done this we will transfer these documents to the computer and create a digital, scaled plan of your garden, to ensure accuracy throughout
the design and build process.
4
Concept Design and Mood Board
Following the design consultation and site survey, we will begin creating a bespoke design for your garden. Our designs are based on the principles of unity and harmony, which help us create gardens
appropriate for the site and which complement your home and surroundings. When the design is complete we will schedule a visit to present it to you, along with a mood board of suggested materials, a mood board for planting and a plan detailing all the key dimensions of the design. It may also be presented alongside elevation drawings to help to bring our vision to life. Once the plans have been presented, we'll give you the opportunity to digest and provide further input should you wish. Options to suit your budget will be discussed at this stage.

Construction Drawings are now produced
Now we have a finalised vision for your garden, we need to create technical documents that our landscaping team require to provide a detailed quote for the work build from. These detailed plans are highly accurate scaled drawings which specify the exact materials and features to deliver your garden on budget. We may need to return to site to take measurements at this stage. In certain circumstances, such as retaining
walls over 1m high, a structural engineer may need to be consulted. Their fees are not costed here. This detailed plan will contain the framework for the build, necessary measurements, a written
brief and material choices. We will email you a copy of this should you not wish to gain quotations from other contractors.

Soft Landscaping / Planting
Once we have confirmed the hard landscaping elements e.g. fences, walls and paving, we can now move onto the planting. Our designer will work from earlier discussions around planting and create a detailed planting plan, indicating the location of each plant for your future garden. Once this has been designed we will, again, organise a visit to present this to you, along with a plant list, a moodboard of the finalised plants and seasonality chart- detailing the interest time of each plant. Our planting designs are created based upon client and designer discussions and the principle of ‘right plant, right place’ - selecting plants that will thrive in your garden conditions. It goes without saying that the plants we select are hard-working and support biodiversity, as well
as looking beautiful and providing essential structure or privacy.
*On smaller gardens this may be presented alongside the concept design Once the planting plans have been presented, we will give you the opportunity to digest and provide further input should you wish.
When it comes to planting we can supply the plants through reputable trade sources, or provide you with a list so that you can source the plants yourself. We can create a planting aftercare manual specific to your garden for an extra fee (Approx £55-95), so that you can keep the plants
looking their best long after we’ve left. If Green Bear is involved in the construction of the garden, we will of course lead on planting,
and giving your garden the best start in life.

Summery
It is worth noting that all gardens and design projects are unique and therefore have different requirements, the design fee for your project will mainly depend on the size of your garden and the complexity of the project. A full garden design package including Initial Consultation, Design Consultation, Site Survey, Concept and Mood Board, Construction Drawings and Planting Plans would expect to start from £795. (Lighting Plans, Planting Plans and Irrigation plans are normally an additional cost as not all clients require these) Here at Green Bear Landscaping we believe that this is the
best option for you and your garden. By having a designer involved in the process you will be guided through each stage of this process which we guarantee will result in a beautiful and cohesive garden that is tailor made to you and your needs.
